The Master of Arts in Religious Education (MARE)

Number of Credits: 48

The Master of Arts in Religious Education (MARE) is a two-year professional degree that prepares students to serve as dynamic educational leaders in a wide range of Christian ministries within churches, schools, and other institutional settings. The MARE is especially designed to prepare those who view teaching as their primary vocational calling and provides individuals with the training and skills necessary to lead, develop, and design effective educational programs that can form, renew, and transform individuals and communities. The program especially emphasizes the development of theoretical and practical frameworks for educational ministry through critical reflection on urban contextual realities. MARE students also have opportunities to participate in hands-on teaching and learning experiences, including field placements, cohort mentorships, peer support groups, and designated spaces for reflection and connection with experienced mentors, that integrate classroom content with their lives and ministries.
